The Early Childhood Education Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Education Manager and is responsible for:

Responsibilities:

1. Daily on-going consultative relationships with Head Start Associate Director and classroom staff as pertains to the quality of their work with children.

2. Assisting Head Start Centers to identify program needs, evolve program goal and offer resources and follow-through in the achievement of these goals.

3. Functioning as a resource to Head Start Centers for literature materials and methods in the field of Early Childhood Education.

4. Aiding Head Start in finding and utilizing community resources offering potential for program enrichment.

5. Monitoring Head Start Programs to ensure that they are adhering to Performance Standards and Head Start Act.

6. Providing the Associate Director with feedback from the individual programs as a guide to the continuous improvement of the work in developing effective programs in Early Childhood Education.

7. Assist Head Start Centers in meeting the requirements for Day Care Licensing Regulations and EOC Agency Policies.

8. Provide on-going training in early childhood theories and child development.

9. Monitoring the cc.net to ensure consistent date entry.

10. Any other duties assigned by the CEO/Executive Director of Senior Manager.

Requirements:

1.    Master Degree in Early Childhood or B.S. or a B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education with certification in Early Childhood Education and currently enrolled in a course of study leading to an M.A. in Early Childhood Education.

EXPERIENCE:


1.    Two years minimum experience as a Teacher in programs of early childhood education involving three, four and five year in a variety of professional settings.

 

2.    At least one year experience directing a program or programs in early childhood education including full responsibility for staff supervision or equivalent experience in psychology, public health or social services.

 

3.    The person serving as an Early Childhood Specialist for the Agency should possess a thorough knowledge of child development, education and learning theories, and a wide range of skills, methods and practices in the field of early childhood education.

 

4.    Must possess an ability to communicate effectively with personnel of Head Start Centers to encourage feedback and utilization in the development of superior programs in Early Childhood Education.

 

5.    Required to have an understanding of the role of parent participation in the operation of the importance of parent leadership in the development in maintenance of good educational standards.

The Economic Opportunity Commission is the designated anti-poverty agency in Nassau County; an innovative Community Action Agency devoted to facilitating and strengthening basic social relationships between individual, families, and social organizations.

For over 50 years, the EOC of Nassau County, Inc., has provided programs and services to the low-income Nassau County residents. During the past year, approximately 41,000 unduplicated low-income children, youth, individuals, and families accessed EOC programs and services. As a Community action Agency, the EOC of Nassau County, Inc., is a direct support for the county's residents who live at or below the federal poverty level.
