The Head Start Registered Nurse Consultant will be responsible for reporting directly to the Head Start Deputy Executive Director and is under the overall supervision of the Head Start Deputy Executive Director.


Salary:          As allocated by the budget

P/T Position:          20 Hours per week. Duties and responsibilities may require some other hours as needed.

  • Review and assessment of children's records including; children's health fodlers, follow-up procedures regarding current and future health concerns.

  • Providing technical assistance as it relates to screenings, facilities/Center Health and Safety guidelines, Workshops and Home visits.

  • Responsibility for continuous folow-up in the areas of health screenings, community health concerns, advocacy for health-related issues and Health education.

  • Make appointments when referrals are deemed necessary.

  • Functions as a liaison between EOC and Community Health Service Providers.

  • Assist in the facilitation of the Health Service Advisory Committee in planning and implementation.

  • Compiles and analyzes data on helath trends in the community. Promotes environmental health and safe practices.

  • Works with Head Start Deputy Executive Director and other Head Start Service Area Managers, to meet the health-related goals and objectives of the overall Head Start Program.

  • Assisting with other EOC Agency assisgnments as deemed necessary by the Chief Executive Officer, Head Start Deputy Executive Director and/or Executive Senior Management.


1. Professional - Must have a valid NYS Registered Nurse Certification must be current and must be maintained annually.

2. Academic - Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or Healthcare Administration and health-related experience is preferred; must have a current First-Aid and CPR Certification or have one within three (3) months of employment.

Must have one or two years' experience working with a community-based program, public service or community-based agency; must have good communication skills (verbal and written); must be in good health; must show warmth and understanding on working with children and adults of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding all client records (individuals, children and families). 

  • Work in partnership with Head Start Corporate Staff; Head Start Program Directors and Staff and Head Start Parents to ensure a system of ongoing well care. The Head Start Nurse RN will also work with the Head Start Registered Dietician to collaboratively meet the Health and Nutrition needs of children. Meet with Head Start Parents individually as applicable and scheduled.
