HIV/AIDS Outreach Prevention and Education
The EOC has three HIV Programs that work in collaboration. The
HIV Prevention and Education Program and HIV Peer Education Program
provide prevention/education to the minority communities. Street
and door-to-door outreach is an integral part of the program. The
HIV Support Group program provides support for men who have sex
with men, women of color, and individuals infected and affected
with HIV/AIDS. Support group participants are encouraged to reduce
isolation, abstain from drug and alcohol use and other at-risk behaviors.

Youth
Development Programs
EOCs youth development programs focus on youth of all ages.
A comprehensive year round program is offered which includes participation
in local youth councils and a County-wide Youth Council. Activities
escalate in the summer time and local community action program features
six week programs including youth employment, leisure time and cultural
activities, recreational activities and lunch is an integral part
of the program. Year round individual and family counseling is offered,
tutorial and homework assistance, and ongoing programs of cultural
enrichment. A special initiative is that of positive alternatives
instead of youth violence including gang violence. Martial arts
are offered as well as career exploration. Workshops are held in
substance prevention, underage drinking, teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS
and so forth.
One special program is the John L. Kearse Soccer Clinic. Low income
youth between the ages of 6 to 19 are eligible to participate in
the John L. Kearse Soccer Clinic. The fundamentals of soccer, which
includes kicking, heading, dribbling, controlling, tackling, goalkeeping,
shooting, and throw-ins are taught. In addition, youth are instructed
in the various positions of the soccer game which includes goalkeeping,
fullbacks, linemen, strikers, and wingers. In order to participate
in this program which includes youth of various racial and ethnic
backgrounds, a student must maintain an acceptable average. The
program has resulted in regional championships in several levels
for the past five years.
The
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is offered annually to an
eligible and deserving student through each Community Action Program.
The winning students are then entitled to a maximum of $4,500 each
year for four years providing that they meet the requirements of
the scholarship regarding grades, choice of a Historically Black
College and other eligibility requirements. EOCs only fund
raising event is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Dinner
Dance which is held annually on or around the birthday of Dr. King
on January 15th.

Cow Bay Transportation
Cow Bay Transportation provides services to and from North Shore
University Hospital for the following communities, clinics and hospitals:
Port Washington, Roslyn, Manhasset, Great Neck, Deepdale, North
Shore Clinic, and Cornell University Hospital. These services are
provided to hospital employees, hospital patients, clinic patients
and senior citizens that volunteer at the hospital. Cow Bay also
provides transportation services to Port Washington CAC, Senior
Citizen Shoppers Program and CAC year around youth programs.

CEDC,
Incorporated
CEDC, Incorporated is the economic development arm of EOC. It was
established in 1971 in order to provide an economic base for the
EOC, which is the anti-poverty program for Nassau County and for
its participants. The program is located at 134 Jackson Street in
Hempstead which is the headquarters of the EOC.
