Family Development Centers

Services

• Nutrition
  • Each center has an Emergency Food Pantry and the means to refer individuals or families for additional assitance when warranted. In these instances, advocacy is also provided; Food Stamp assistance and advocacy, WIC referrals and nutrition workshops are held for the community
• English as a Second Language
  • Referrals are provided as well as tutorials, homework assistance and other educational opportunities. Referrals are made when necessary for educational assistance, intervention and advocacy are performed within the schools. Higher education assistance is provided including information about the EOC/CEDC Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program.
• Senior Citizen Program
  • Advocacy is provided for Senior Citizen as well as Health and Nutrition workshops. Centers serve as employment sites for Foster Grandparents and for seniors employed through the Senior Community Services Program.
• Aid to the Foreign Born
  • Community Organization Advocacy and other services provided to the foreign born reflect those provided to the population at large. In addition, they receive Immigration Assistance, Court Advocacy and Translation, free Income Tax Services and Community Assistance and English As A Second Language program referrals.
• Youth Development
  • All Centers provide opportunities for youth leadership development through local Youth Councils. Sports programs are provided. Recreation, tutorial and leisure time activities are conducted.
